GOLD-FILLED JEWELRY
Just in case you don't know what gold-filled actually means, I shall explain. In the United States it means that one twentieth of the metal must be gold. Usually it is either 12 karat or 14 karat gold and it is rolled over a base metal (usually brass) on one or more sides. What this boils down to is that it is a much thicker layer of gold than a gold plated item has. The gold on a gold plated item is only about a molecule thick and has a tendency to wear off. Properly cared for gold-filled items can last many, many years. I still wear a gold-filled chain which was given to me about twenty five years ago. You can enjoy the look of gold at a price just a little higher than that of sterling silver. Your gold-filled jewelry may darken with time, but can be easily revived by the use of a jewelers' rouge cloth.

"ONLY A BIRD" EARRINGS
("in a gilded cage...") I'm afraid I'm showing my age with this title, but it kept going through my head when I designed these gold-filled earrings.
