HANDMADE STERLING SILVER
Here is another page of our handmade sterling silver earrings. Several of the designs on this page also feature semi-precious stone beads or faceted stones. We think that the sterling silver and stones compliment each other wonderfully, but if you prefer sterling silver with no additions, after you've seen the first selection on this page, you might want to look at our silver earrings page.
STERLING SHIMMER EARRINGS
These handmade sterling silver earrings are small and light, but they pack a lot of pizazz! The tiny sterling beads that make them up are diamond-cut and all those facets really catch and reflect the light producing the sparkle and shimmer for which they were named. This design looks equally at home with fancy evening wear or her favorite jeans. (The only negative thing we could say about these sterling silver earrings is that they are a bit difficult and time consuming to fabricate.) Beautiful, versatile, and eye-catching as these earrings are, we wouldn't be at all surprised if they end up being her all-time favorite pair.

STRAIGHT ARROW EARRINGS
These earrings are handmade with sterling silver and howlight or hematite and assorted stone beads. Howlite is a white stone with gray veining throughout, while the more familiar hematite is a uniform very dark gray with a metallic luster. Because of their neutral tones, these stones go well with almost any color. Please note, the stone bead cutters have apparently discontinued the chevron style bead. Once my current supply is exhausted, I will no longer be able to offer this design. We have these bargain priced at only $7.95 in either stone.

SIMPLY ELEGANT EARRINGS
These handmade sterling silver earrings are just what their name implies; simple yet elegant. The combination of the "Bali style" sterling silver bead with the smooth silver "rice" bead gives these earrings interesting contrast and detail. They are available in malachite (as shown), rose quartz, Amazonite, aventurine, jade, rhodonite, Botswana agate, sodalite, lapis lazuli, rhodochrosite, or black onyx. $9.95
Malachite has been associated with loyalty, practicality, and responsibility and is thought by some to stimulate intuition. Its rich green color and darker banding make it one of the most easily distinguished of the semi-precious stones.

Pretty in pink, rose quartz has been known as "the love stone". It is thought to promote calm and harmony, but don't wear it out in the bright sunlight or store in a brightly lit place as this will cause it to fade over time.

Amazonite is a very pretty stone, particularly if you happen to be attracted by aqua and turquoise colors. Look for a pronounced background color and white banding when you purchase Amazonite. There is quite a bit of pale aqua colored stone on the market which has been sold as Amazonite, but is actually dyed fluorite.

Aventurine is a green form of quartz, often containing tiny particles of mica or other minerals, which give it its characteristic slightly speckled look. It is generally a light shade of green, but is sometimes seen in a darker shade. This stone is associated with creativity and leadership.

Jade, in the form of both jadeite and nephrite, has been used for centuries for personal adornment and as a carving medium. It is extremely tough which is one reason that antique Chinese jade carvings are often found still in pristine condition. Most of the jade beads sold by gem dealers are green nephrite. Jadeite which occurs in a wider range of colors, is much harder to find.

Rhodonite, which is usually a deeper, rosier pink than rose quartz, with black or brown veins is the official semi-precious stone of Massachusetts. (Since our "brick and mortar" store is located in Massachusetts, we are particularly pleased to be able to offer this design in rhodonite!) This stone is associated with balance and attunement with spirituality.

Botswana agate was named for its place of origin, Botswana, Africa. It is generally a light gray color, enlivened with the banding that all agates usually exhibit. This is a neutral color which will compliment almost any color outfit.

Sodalite may be confused with lapis lazuli because of its blue coloration; however, it usually contains a fair amount of white veining and is generally a less intense blue than lapis lazuli. It is associated with efficiency and logic.

Lapis lazuli has been prized for centuries for its intense blue color. It was even ground and used as a cosmetic in ancient times. Most lapis lazuli has flecks of pyrite which adds an extra interest to the stone. It is associated with wisdom and psychic ability.

Rhodochrosite is a pretty, clear pink and creamy white stone. Its lacey look makes it a particularly feminine gem. It is considered to be a stone of love and balance.

Although some natural black onyx is mined, it is a rarity and the vast majority of "black onyx" available on the market has been dyed (but don't worry, it can't rub off!). This is one of the most versatile of the semi-precious stones, used for both men's and women's jewelry and appropriate for both casual and fancy dress.

"GOING DOWN?"EARRINGS
These earrings are handmade from sterling silver, hematite, and blue onyx (a dyed stone). Hematite seems to be an almost universal favorite. Even the men tend to like this semi-precious stone. Hematite is actually an iron ore which explains why a magnetized version is becoming popular. Don't worry though, I didn't use the magnetic stones for these earrings. I wouldn't want to be responsible for someone getting pinned to her refrigerator by the ears!
