Unique Designs

handcrafted pendant featuring a large green agate cabochon and faceted blue topaz

I decided to include this page after looking through my collection of cabochons and carved semi-precious stones because it reminded me that though some were very similar, no two were exactly alike. In general the agates and jaspers show the most individuality. Please remember that I can make a second piece of jewelry just like one you might have seen here at an earlier date, but it wont look the same because the premier semi-precious stone or stones display their own unique patterns.

This also applies to the freshwater pearl necklace shown here because I purposely mixed colors, sizes, and shapes of pearls to make what I consider a more interesting necklace than the classic graduated round pearl necklace and probably couldn't make another exactly alike even if I tried! Not Your Grandma's Pearls image of necklace made of various colors and shapes of freshwater pearls

Like most people, I admire the luster of pearls, but I find the traditional "string of pearls" kind of boring. One of the vendors at a wholesale gem show had temprorarily strung a bunch of mismatched pearls from his inventory and it gave me an idea. This is a 20 inch strand of freshwater pearls, strung on hand knotted silk with sterling silver clasp. I purposely placed different colors and shapes next to each other so that the uniqueness of each one would show. I've been mentally labeling them "confetti pearls".

Turquoise and Bone Necklace

I decided to put this piece under Unique Designs because it features four very special bone beads with cloisonne bead caps, the like of which I will probably never see again. The necklace, which is a smidge over 20 inches, is made of turquoise beads, the aforementioned bone and cloisonne beads, and a carved bone bead hand-knotted on silk thread with a sterling silver clasp.

Botswana Agate Earrings

picture of an array of botswana agate teardrop and flattened teardrop shape earrings showing the differences in shades and banding of this stone.

As I said earlier agates and jaspers tend to show the most individuality because of their patterning. This great feature has a down side when it comes to designing earrings! I do the best I can to get a general match between the stone beads but they will never be identical. That's also why the drop-down menu only offers a choice between the regular or flattened teardrop shape of the earrings. If you have a preference such as a light or dark background, a little banding or a lot, etc., please note that in the message area of the shopping cart.

Carved Bone Pendant With Rhodochrosite And Silver

19 inch necklace plus carved bone pendant is made of sterling silver, rhodochrosite beads, and accent cloisonne beads.

This necklace is a real treat for Spring and Summer as it features a bone pendant carved in a floral design, sterling butterfly beads, rosy colored rhodochrosite, and floral cloisonne beads. It is 19 inches long and the pendant hangs down about another 2 inches. It is threaded on a miniature cable called "Tigertail" but the bulk of it is covered by tiny sterling silver tube beads often called "liquid silver".

Moss Agate Pendant

handcrafted pendant featuring a large green agate cabochon and faceted blue topaz

I have hesitated to put this piece up for sale for a long time because it's one of favorite ones. The large green agate cabochon and faceted blue topaz compliment each other well. Given that I seldom wear a necklace and that I think this particular one would look much nicer on someone larger and taller than I am, it just sits here in a plastic bag. That's a shame as I want my creation to be seen and enjoyed!
